Victor Salinas, a member of the TCHS Class of 2023 signed a letter of intent today to become a firefighter with the Tifton Fire Department.
Caleb Smith and Macy Thorne are the Work Based Learning Coordinators at TCHS. Salinas was a student in Smith's marketing class in the fall when he told Smith that had always wanted to be a firefighter. Smith and Thorne soon began having conversations with Tifton Fire Chief Bobby Bennett about forming a partnership with the City of Tifton to provide opportunities for students to give back to the community. Victor Salinas' dream is about to become a reality.
According to Smith, "Victor is super dedicated and very precise. These qualities make him perfect for this field."
TCHS Principal, Dr Chad Stone told those present at the signing that this is a first for TCHS. "Victor is the first success story from the partnership with the City of Tifton, the Tifton Fire Department, and our Work Based Learning Program. Building relationships with organizations within our community makes us Better Today than Yesterday."
After passing his certifications, Salinas will become a firefighter with the Tifton Fire Department. These successes show how we are Relentlessly Pursuing a Culture of Excellence in Tift County Schools.
