At their regular monthly meeting on October 10th, the Board of Education unanimously voted to appoint Dr. Jerry Baker to serve as Interim Superintendent for Tift County Schools. Dr. Baker has a diverse background including more than 25 years of executive leadership experience. He most recently served as the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at ABAC until his retirement in 2022.
On behalf of the members of the Tift County Board of Education, Chairman Jonathan Jones said, “The Tift County Board of Education is very fortunate to have Dr. Jerry Baker serve as Interim Superintendent joining the board members on the school system’s governance team. Dr. Baker brings extensive experience within education, research, and administration that will strengthen an already strong team of system leaders. Tift County Schools leadership remains focused on providing the very best opportunities for our students to grow and reach their greatest potential.”
Assuming these duties immediately, Dr. Baker spent his first day welcoming staff members for Grades 6 - 12 at their “Building Blue Chip Talent'' system conference day. The remainder of the day was spent with system and school administrators. While he is looking forward to working with all staff and students, Dr. Baker wants to continue to inspire students to learn and to do so in a way that involves all stakeholders.
The Board of Education will begin their search to fill the superintendent position immediately.
