Tonight, the Board of Education approved an updated version of the 2024-2025 school calendar that includes revisions that are based on feedback received from employees and parents. We believe these changes are a win-win for everyone, especially our students who will recover four of the lost instructional days because we know our students benefit from face to face instruction and the supportive environments our schools provide.
Here’s a summary of the changes:
The following teacher workdays will now be regular school days for students:
October 21st
May 2nd
May 27th & 28th
Post-Planning days will now be on May 29th & 30th.
Graduation will still be on May 22nd.
For our staff:
Hourly staff, including bus drivers and school nutrition employees, will be able to recoup 4 days of work lost due to the weather closures.
Students and staff will still have their Fall Break!
In order to make these adjustments we had to request and receive state approval to move our Georgia Milestones testing windows. While these adjusted schedules will be tighter, they allow for more instructional time before testing.
Winter End of Course testing window to December 10-20th.
Additional make up dates would be in January following the break.
This will require a change to the grade posting window and report card date.
Spring End of Grade testing will now be April 28th-May 9th.
The retake window is scheduled for May 22-27th, with state approval.
As a school system, we know the best place for our children to learn is in a classroom working face to face with their teacher. The weather events this fall afforded our school staff with four unplanned but much appreciated in-service days, and this revised calendar ensures our teachers have the maximum amount of face to face classroom time to ensure our students master the standards.
We believe this provides a win-win for our community and demonstrates the commitment we have to ensuring the success of our children while also supporting our employees.
