πBlack History Month Spotlight: Pat McKinnonπ
Ms. Pat McKinnon has served on the Tift County Board of Education since 2020 as the elected District #2 representative, but she proudly serves all Tift County students. In August 2024, she was appointed by her peers to District Director Seat #14 on the Georgia School Boards Association Board of Directors, making her the first Tift County Board member to hold this position.
A Tift County High graduate, Ms. McKinnon earned her degree from Valdosta State University, where she was a cheerleader, Resident Assistant, and active student leader. She is also the first African American President & CEO of the United Way of South-Central Georgia, leading efforts to strengthen communities across five counties.
Beyond education, she is a dedicated volunteer, serving on multiple boards and advocating for lupus awareness through the βLβs Upβ Campaign. She has led initiatives like painting downtown Tifton purple, hosting awareness events, and organizing the first Tifton Lupus Walk in 2022.
Ms. McKinnon is a passionate advocate for education, following in the footsteps of her late mother, Bernice L. McKinnon, who served as a Tift County educator for 30 years. Her commitment to students, families, and the community is unwavering.
Her favorite quote, passed down from her mother: βLife is what you make it!β
Thank you, Ms. McKinnon, for your leadership and service to Tift County! π #BlackHistoryMonth #4theT
